eNews: Approaching Lent
We are approaching that remarkable season we call LENT. Next Wednesday (March 6th) all Catholics around the globe will gather together to receive the sign of the Cross on their foreheads. This beautiful sign reminds us who we are in the creation of God: “
We are dust and to dust we shall return.
” We come from the earth as the Book of Genesis claims and that certainty leads us to recognize our fragility as human beings.
Lent is also a journey, a journey in the desert of our spiritual lives, a journey of 40 days that leads us to the cross of Jesus Christ which means sacrifice and salvation. So how can we start our preparation for this journey? Well, our community invites you to join us for the
Lenten Parish Mission
Father Brendan Moss
. He will be with us this weekend preaching all the Masses and sharing his knowledge and spirituality during three evening sessions (Sunday, Monday and Tuesday) at the Church of the Assumption (7:00 to 8:30 pm) and morning sessions at St John of Rochester (Monday and Tuesday) at 9:00-10:45 am. What a great beginning of our Lenten journey. Please, don’t miss this opportunity to encounter God in the desert of your life and let us prepare ourselves for a time of enrichment and spiritual nourishment.

A Prayer for Ash Wednesday
God of goodness and mercy,
Hear my prayer
as I begin this Lenten journey with you.
Let me be honest with myself
as I look into my heart and soul,
noticing the times I turn away from you.
Guide me as I humbly seek
to repent and return to your love.
May humility guide my efforts
to be reconciled with you and live forever
in your abundant grace.
Transform me this Lent,
Give me the strength to commit myself
to grow closer to you each day.

It's not unusual for people who are not Catholic to attend our liturgies and social events with Catholic friends or family members for years without considering becoming Catholic themselves. Sometimes, all that is needed is a personal invitation!
If you know anyone like this, please let them know that the first steps do not require any commitment other than the desire to learn more about our faith. Contact Sheryl Zabel for more information about the RCIA process.
