Fr. Ed's February eNews
Many years ago some friends of mine dubbed this period "the quiet lull between Christmas and Ash Wednesday." It's the space when we are in the "Ordinary Time" of the church Liturgical Year. The title refers to the 'ordinals" in which we reckon the weeks of the year, (you know 1 2-3-4 etc.). But it is anything but ordinary. It is the time of snow, winter breaks, shoveling, snow men, skiing, sledding and for some, warm vacations. It is also the time in which church ministers gear up for Lent which starts on Ash Wednesday which this year on March 1. Enjoy this month! Make it a time of enjoyment and remember that every moment of our lives is filled with redemption and the call to holiness!
The month of February has been traditionally dedicated to the Holy Family.
HOLY FAMILY OF NAZARETH
, make our family one with you. Help us to be instruments of peace. Grant that love, strengthened by grace, may prove mightier than all the weaknesses and trials through which our families sometimes pass. May we always have God at the center of our hearts and homes until we are all one family, happy and at peace in our true home with you. Amen.

A Prayer In the Midst of Winter
In the midst of Winter, when the days are cold and wind can pierce,
remind us of the warmth of your love.
In the midst of Winter, when days are short, dawn comes late,
and dusk arrives early,
remind us that in the darkness your light still shines.
In the midst of Winter, when the flowers of spring still lie hidden in the earth,
when leaves are off the trees, and the world can seem bleak
remind us that Easter is but a short time away.
And when in our lives we feel as if we are experiencing a season of winter,
reach out to us with the power of your resurrection
so that we may feel the warmth of your love
and see your light that alone can take away the darkness of our soul.
